LASIK is a laser eye procedure designed to correct vision issues, including distance and reading vision as well as astigmatisms. Short for "Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis", LASIK has been shown to possibly eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses in many patients. LASIK is often preferred over PRK surgery or other options because of its shorter recovery time.

LASIK surgery reshapes the patient's cornea to reduce the patient's near sightedness, far-sightedness or astigmatism. When performed by a properly trained, experienced LASIK surgeon, LASIK enables many patients to live, work and play without corrective lenses.

LASIK surgery is an outpatient procedure that uses local anesthesia in the form of eyedrops. Many patients are able to return to their routines within 48 hours of their procedure. LASIK does not require stitches or sutures. Instead, the surgeon creates a thin flap, enabling the laser to reach the cornea and reshape it. Once completed, the flap is folded back and allowed to heal.
