VISUAL REJUVENATION
Presbyopia is an eye condition that generally develops in people who are in their forties through or fifties. In Presbyopia, a personÃ?'s eyes lose the ability to focus in on close objects. Daily tasks such as reading a newspaper, menu, computer screen or anything else that requires you to focus in on close objects all become difficult to people with Presbyopia. One thing that is unique to Presbyopia is that it is acquired through the aging process. In disorders such as astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness, people can acquire them from a range of other factors including genetics or trauma. Most people will eventually suffer from sort of presbyopia in their life.
There are a couple ways to treat this common disorder. The Pannu Laser Institute offers one of those methods, Nearvision CK. To learn more information about Presbyopia and how the Pannu Laser Institute can help diagnose and treat you, call Pannu Laser Institute today at (954) 484-0700 for your free vision correction consultation.

Almost everyone over the age of 65 will experience some cataract formation in their eyes. A cataract is a cloudiness of the eye's natural lens. Cataracts can severely reduce your vision, and at one time they were a leading cause of blindness. A cataract occurs when the normally clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy. As the cataract develops, the cloudiness no longer allows the lens to properly focus light on the back of the eye. This unfocused light causes the vision to look blurry or hazy. Development of cataracts has been associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
At the Pannu Laser Institute, we can perform the quick and painless cataract surgery to help alleviate this problem. To determine the strength of lens needed to help correct your vision, the doctor will first test your eye. On the day of surgery, you will be treated with a local anesthetic and a small incision will be made in your eye. At least 95% of the patients receive an artificial lens implant after the cataract is removed. This lens is called an intraocular lens or IOL and is made from the same plastic as certain types of contact lenses. In some cases, a special tiny foldable IOL is used for implantation. This type of lens is inserted into the eye through a very small opening, only 1/8th inch. Once in the eye, the lens unfolds to its full size. After this procedure, you are allowed to return home, so long as someone drives you.
Cataract surgery and IOL implantation is quite safe. The IOLs must pass through a very stringent approval process before they can be used. The benefits of the implant greatly outweigh the small-added risk of implantation.
The recovery time for cataract surgery is very short. Usually, the vision after surgery is very good. If you or someone you love may be suffering from cataracts, please call the Pannu Laser Institute to schedule your free consultation today!

Refractive surgery utilizes laser and surgical techniques to correct vision problems. Refractive lens exchange is ideal for people ages 45-50 who might not qualify for other refractive surgeries. The purpose of this procedure is to reduce the scale of your vision problem to give you better vision without glasses or contacts. It can also be used to help correct nearsightedness and farsightedness. Much like cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange replaces your natural lens with an implant.
Refractive surgery requires only a small incision. This may allow for added benefits such as short recovery time, elimination of near and far-sightedness, treatment of both eyes during one procedure, and astigmatism can also be addressed during surgery. After surgery, there are very few restrictions and you can return to normal activities only a short time after the procedure. Since refractive lens exchange replaces your natural lens, this will eliminate the changes of developing cataracts!

The ReSTOR and ReZoom are new implants that have been designed to correct near vision, very similar to the use of bifocals in glasses. These procedures have been designed to improve vision at all distances. The implants are intended to improve the imperfections in your vision, enabling you to live a life free of glasses and improve the overall quality of your vision.

CK is an exciting option for patients over 45 with presbyopia who want to have clear vision possibly without the use of reading glasses. Even for those with perfect vision, the eye's ability to see closer objects, and also the ability to shift between distant and close objects, begins to decrease at about age 40 and typically grows progressively worse with age. Currently, over 70 million Americans over the age of 40 are farsighted or have difficulty reading small print at close distances. CK has been found to successfully restore the ability to see close-up or read small print in people over 45.
CK, short for Conductive Keratoplasty, is a procedure designed to treat presbyopia using the controlled release of radiofrequency energy, instead of a laser or scalpel, to reshape the cornea. Because CK does not involve cutting or lasers, the procedure can be conveniently performed in an office setting or refractive surgery suite using only eye drop anesthesia. The procedure takes minutes to perform, and the result is improvement in your vision and in most cases you can return to your normal schedule the next day. CK is a safe, minimally invasive and convenient. And CK is fast: The procedure is performed in just under 3 minutes!
The CK procedure itself takes only a few minutes and is virtually painless. A topical anesthetic eye drop is applied to the eye, and then the doctor marks the intended treatment spots in a ring pattern on the cornea. Then a circular treatment pattern, in rinse-away ink, is imprinted on the cornea to guide the physician. Using the tiny probe thinner than a strand of human hair, a physician applies radio waves in a circular pattern to shrink small areas of corneal tissue. The circular shrinkage pattern creates a constrictive band of tissue which, much like the tightening of a belt, makes the curve of the cornea steeper and increases its focusing power. This energy causes a slight shrinkage of tissue inside the cornea, which in turn alters the curvature of the corneal surface. Light rays from close-up objects are now focused more accurately on the retina, thus compensating for presbyopia. When the CK procedure is completed, the majority of patients find that the need for contact lenses or reading glasses is greatly reduced!
Your CK Results
Soon after the procedure, physician will give you some soothing eye drops and instruct you to go home and relax for the rest of the day. For the first couple of days, you may experience some scratchiness in your eyes, or excessive watering. This rapidly improves and medications can be taken to relieve any discomfort. Normal activities are generally resumed within a day or two. While many patients see improvement in their near vision immediately after the procedure, it usually takes a few weeks to several months for the results to be fully realized. As with other vision correction procedures, you may experience some discomfort and light sensitivity (glare or halos) for a few days following CK. Serious complications with CK are extremely rare.
Can CK Help You?
CK is best suited for those who are over 40 years of age and who had good vision until they reached their forties. CK has been approved to treat presbyopia between +.75 and +3.00 Diopters. CK is a safe and effective procedure, but like any medical procedure, it does have some risks. After a thorough eye exam you and a physician will determine if CK is an option for you. If you are a good candidate, you will be given additional information about the procedure that will allow you to make an informed decision about whether to proceed.
